According to the Star, Kenya is ignoring intelligence information that is being offered about the Al Shabaab by a senior Somali National Army commander. Yassin Bare Hassan, the SNA Commander in the Gedo region claimed that security officials are not collaborating well with his army members. He feels that Kenya is not serious in the fight against al Shabaab.
Some weeks ago Bare Hassan offered 14 names of individuals whom he knew had links with terror networks in Somalia and who were in Mandera county but the Kenyan security officers did nothing about it. Interestingly these individuals crossed and entered into Kenya through routes manned by Kenyan forces. They have easy access in and out of Mandera as they wish. Bare added that the KDF know of the main al Shabaab stronghold in a town called Gadandawe but they have made no attempts to flush them out. On many instances even with all the information on Al Shabaab movements, the KDF have boomed livestock herders and killed hundreds of animals instead of the al Shabaab members.
